LEGS is an acronym for Let’s Enhance Gleadell Street. We’re a group of local residents, not political, but engaged with getting the community voice heard. We are LEGS Association Inc. and as a formal association we can lobby government and council more effectively, arrange events and seek funding for improving open space for people.
We want Gleadell Street to be a shared community space. It is the fresh food market “where Richmond meets” on Saturday every week. We see it as the ideal spot for a civic hub where people meet “every day”.
“…like a town square…but a street…”
The City of Yarra shares this vision, which they approved in their Bridge Road Streetscape Master Plan. Now, a Concept Master Plan has been produced for community consultation.
We are asking for it to become a reality, to create an area that everyone loves, feels good in, and shares – the school kids, child-care and get-fit folk, indigenous and other cultures, market shoppers, sports families, walkers, dog walkers, cyclists, high-rise flat dwellers, rich and poor, a place everyone enjoys, and it feels real Richmond.
